The fruit (pomegranate), Sicilian "Ranato" is a berry with a very hard and leathery skin, with a diameter of 7 to 8 cm and a size strongly influenced by the variety and, above all, by cultivation conditions. The fruit has several robust internal partitions that function as placentation for the seeds, called arils (up to 600 or more per fruit).
The seeds of this variety, trapezoidal in shape like horse teeth, are surrounded by a translucent, transparent pulp, red in the center, sweet and fragrant. The pomegranate fruit is particularly rich in mineral salts such as potassium, manganese, zinc, copper, and phosphorus. But that's not all! It also contains iron, sodium, and calcium. There is also an abundant presence of vitamins: A, B, C, E, and K. In addition to water, which naturally represents the main element, we find sugars, fibers, and fats.
This variety is suitable for eating fresh and also for juices and extracts, distinguished by the presence of non-woody arils.
